ABOUT THE HEDGEROW ARTIST
My name is Angela Weir the owner and creator behind The Hedgerow Artist. I live in the seaside town of Scarborough. Nestled in my studio that overlooks a stunning green valley, I find daily inspiration for my art in the natural beauty that surrounds me.
Creativity has been an integral part of my life from painting large seascapes to the smallest of wildlife. This passion has taken me on a journey which has resulted in creating my own art and design business The Hedgerow Artist. My artwork has found a home in the Stephen Joseph Theatre, where I am proud to be part of an art collective. In addition to this my products are stocked in a local gift boutique and on-line in my Folksy store. Over the last few years I have held exhibitions in various locations including Scampston Hall Walled Garden and can be found at art and craft events across the county throughout the year.
About my art process
I use a variety of mediums from traditional oils, acrylics and pastels on canvas and paper to using off cuts of wood as a canvas. Many of my art prints are created by blending original work with new digitally painted backgrounds. I also use my digital sketchbook to experiment with new art prints that then form the base of original paintings.
Traditional Mediums

I love working with both oils and acrylics especially on large canvases or wooden boards. Such as this 'Curious Fox'

Art On Wood
Pastels require specialist paper that has a rough surface that holds on to the tiny pigmented flecks. Wood works equally as well and I have painted on various pieces of wood from offcuts to wood burrs like this tawny owl.

Digital Art
Some people may think this isn't 'real' painting but I would like them to have that discussion with David Hockney who creates some real masterpieces with digital art.
This media still requires fine drawing skills and can take hours to complete. I have spent many years developing my digital painting style and love the variety of images I can create using this medium.
Combining traditional with digital
This Lapwing painting was originally painted using soft pastels on brown paper. I scanned the original, digitally removed the background and painted a new contemporary backdrop.
